I live in Kenosha Wisconsin where Oscar Zirk the inventor if the zirk becoming lived after he moved from Chicago and we used to farm a chunk of property next to his mansion. I met him a few instances and wasn’t too impressed but a person who had been a mechanical engineer in Oscars plant in Chicago used to go to Oscar repeatedly. I met this man and found that he was probably the true inventor of the Zerk becoming. He instructed me something about your 1/four-28 Zerks that not many individuals know. They’re really 1/sixteen-27 TAPERED PIPE THREAD!! Tell that to the fellows within the tool crib.
Probably either a stiff or defective coupler. Push tougher in case the shifting elements contained in the coupler are simply stiff. In case you force it on, be ready for not with the ability to get it off or having to purchase a $10 zerk extractor software and a new zerk. If your greasegun head (hydraulic fitting) is not going to fit over the zerk attempt adjusting the grease gun head. Mine all have an adjustment function that regulates how tight a fit you may get between the grease gun and the zerk.
I discovered a rubber tipped grease gun adapter in our native farm retailer. It screws on the grease gun in place of the zerk becoming adapter normally discovered on a grease gun. The hyperlink beneath reveals another types of thread on zerks made by Alemite. Has all kinds of thread info. I have a catalog that looks like there are 5 completely different sizes of Alemite brand fittings. I might be flawed about it being 5, it could possibly be 3 with 2 being a special shape. It is fairly complicated and annoying as a result of I’ve ran throughout different sizes or the head is a slightly totally different shape and the coupler doesn’t match right.
Thanks Ken2 and Satterfi, I’ll put a vice grip on the becoming and see if I can force it on. I see that there are different sizes zerks at Farm & Fleet but the dimension appears so completely different that confusion would be precluded. The bigger ones are for large ag or development tools, I feel. Lubricate tight and onerous to achieve spots with the 12” flexible hose. This all-in-one kit consists of most fittings required for most functions. 1 pc Grease Gun Adapter (flat). 1 pc Grease Gun Coupler.
Some zerks are 1/four-28 UNF tapered thread, but they match a straight 1/4-28 tapped hole. Others I’ve seen lately are metric M6. Best technique to verify is to discover a 1/4-28 nut at a ironmongery store or in your spare parts bin and see if the zerk thread matches it. In that case drill #3 as somebody suggested and tap 1/4-28. If the 1/4-28 nut does not fit easily it could be M6.
It will be a tapered thread. You simply need to determine on the becoming you need and look up a thread chart for the tapping dimension. I presume in the States 1/eight NPT would be fairly normal. I’ve used this rubber tipped adapter with a grease gun stuffed with Liquid Wrench or 30 wt. oil to flush out the outdated grease from bearings by eradicating the grease cups and urgent the rubber tip into the threaded gap or for flushing out the plain drilled oil holes which are found on many pieces of machinery.
In all probability both a stiff or defective coupler. Push more durable in case the moving parts inside the coupler are just stiff. When you drive it on, be ready for not with the ability to get it off or having to buy a $10 zerk extractor instrument and a new zerk. If your greasegun head (hydraulic becoming) won’t fit over the zerk try adjusting the grease gun head. Mine all have an adjustment characteristic that regulates how tight a fit you may get between the grease gun and the zerk.
Thanks Ken2 and Satterfi, I will put a vice grip on the becoming and see if I can pressure it on. I see that there are totally different sizes zerks at Farm & Fleet but the measurement seems so totally different that confusion could be precluded. The larger ones are for big ag or building gear, I feel. Lubricate tight and exhausting to reach spots with the 12” flexible hose. This all-in-one equipment consists of most fittings required for most functions. 1 computer Grease Gun Adapter (flat). 1 computer Grease Gun Coupler.
I ended up shopping for a few 1/4-28 Zerks and a 1/8-to-1/4 inch pipe reducer becoming. Screwed the Zerk into the reducer, reducer into the bearing-fitting-opening(s), then pumped grease by way of with a grease-gun. Until the top is banged up, the fitting is a few odd overseas fitting, or the coupler worn, I have never had a problem. I would like to know extra about different zerk head shapes. I just discovered/seen that a earlier proprietor fitted a Zerk in one of the lube-points that feeds the principle gear. It hadn’t seen it before as it’s tucked inside and toward the underside of the engine. I’m wondering if I might remove it and use it in other lube points? Perhaps it is a 1/4-inch Zerk? If not, I will get busy with some of the recommendations all of you provided in this post.
